DEAR FRIENDS SUPPORTING AUTISM,


The Covington Rotary Club is excited to be gearing up for our 5th Annual Fundraising Dinner and Auction (both live and silent) on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at The Madison in Covington, Kentucky.

This year’s theme is Autism. Locally and around the world hundreds of thousands of children are afflicted with Autism. Autism is a complex neurobiological disorder that typically lasts throughout a person's lifetime. It is part of a group of disorders known as autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Today, 1 in 150 individuals are diagnosed with autism, making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. It occurs in all racial, ethnic, and social groups and is four times more likely to strike boys than girls. Autism impairs a person's ability to communicate and relate to others. It is also associated with rigid routines and repetitive behaviors, such as obsessively arranging objects or following very specific routines. Symptoms can range from very mild to quite severe.
We are striving to improve the lives of these children in Covington, at Rising Star Studios, a non-profit organization that provides children with autism a place to be artistic, to socialize and to get support; www.risingstarstudios.org. And, we are also helping in India by providing support at a designated school for children with Autism, www.ashaforautism.com .

WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are looking for sponsors (see next page) auction items, whether large or small, to be auctioned off the night of the event. All donated items will be given proper recognition as to the donor and/or participating company.
