We would like to take the time to say thank you to everyone who has shown there love and support during this tragic time. The Red Cross has been able to help the Hill/Hafford family make arrangements to fly home; because as some may have heard, most of the family was in Miami headed on a 7 day/night vacation in the Bahamas when the fire broke out in Estelle Hills home. Gloria Hill, LaʼDetres Stallworth and his two children LaʼDetres Jr. and DeʼAsia Stallworth (5 and 3) were all released from the hospital and have a strong bill of health, and were told that they would be okay. They along with Ronny Hill and Kathy Maxel have been given emergency funding and have been put-up in homes by Family and Friends. However due to the fact that this was a sudden incident no arrangements have been made as of yet for Tawanna Haffords funeral.
A fund has been set up and sent out by Fifth/Third Bank and Channel 5. This fund is called the Tawanna Hafford Memorial. We urge you, please go to your local Fifth/Third Bank and make a donation to help pay for the funeral, clothing, food, and burial arrangements for Tawanna Hafford and those who lost their possessions in the Fire. Also please continue to pray for this familyʼs strength and wellness during this tragic time.
Thank you and God Bless.
LiʼDairious Hafford (loving brother)

Please help Tori Meier
This is a personal plea for your help from Joseph Jones. I have determined not to sit idly by while a young girl and her family suffers. Tori’s mother, Jessica, works with my wife Amanda at Standard Textile and is in tremendous need of our help.
This is the story of Tori Meier. In 1999 Tori was diagnosed with Epilepsy. When the illness became uncontrollable a medical procedure was performed in an attempt to isolate and control the area of Tori’s brain which doctors believed was causing the episodes. Upon attempting to localize they discovered a brain tumor which they could not remove due to its location. Tori was subsequently placed on medication to control the seizures which ultimately did not work.
Doctors determined that removal of the brain tumor was a must in order to save Tori’s life. During the procedure it was discovered that Tori had cancer. Daily chemotherapy and radiation treatments are currently being utilized to cure the challenge and this of course has been devastating to the family. Tori’s mother has found it necessary to now work part-time in order to be with Tori while she is going through treatments and being home schooled.
As if the medical condition of Tori weren’t placing enough strain on the family they are about to loose their home. Jessica’s medical insurance did not cover the cost of chemotherapy and Jessica was left with no choice but to pay out of pocket for the treatment. The financial burden coupled with her reduction of work hours has done insurmountable damage to the families finances.
IT’S TIME TO HELP ONE OF OUR OWN! This family is in immediate need of financial assistance and anything you can do is greatly appreciated. If you would like to help save this family’s home and get them on the road to recovery please make a financial contribution to the following fund established at Fifth Third Bank: The Tori Meier Benefit Fund no later than Friday, November 2nd. Your giving will change a family’s life and is greatly appreciated!
Please visit www.carepages.com for information and updates on Tori. Her page name is torimeier. You have to register first and then you can login to her page and see pictures and get updates.

Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month...
Pancreatic cancer: Is still the 4th leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. Receives the least amount of federal research dollars among all leading cancers. Gets little public attention.
November, as you may have heard, is National Pancreatic Awareness Month. The campaign is “Picture your world Purple” where we are encouraging everyone to wear purple on November 15th.
Z Gallerie (located in Rookwood Commons) hosts their annual PanCAN event where a portion of all their sales for the week will be donated to PanCAN for research and cure. Our affiliation will be setting up a table during the week of November 5-11 to coincide with their week and we’ll be handing out literature on PanCAN to inform the general public.
The Cincinnati Affiliation will be participating in the Thanksgiving Day race downtown wearing the PanCAN singlets. We have not raised money for this event but people are welcome to donate and they can contact me at skrause@fuse.net or my cell number: 513-259-9541 if they are interested in donating to PanCAN. The objective here is to raise awareness –we’ll focus on hosting an ‘event’ as we grow. We will be stuffing race bags on November 19 at Bob Ronkers in O’Bryonville for the Thanksgiving Day race participants with literature and other items to again –inform about Pancreatic Cancer, PALS (Patient and Liaison services) and PanCAN.

Roman Fariello...
Roman Fariello is a two year old little boy who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a very aggressive form of cancer, at 18 months of age. For the past 6 months little Roman has been in and out of hospitals (mostly in) and his family have had to take a lot of time off work, unpaid, in order to get Roman to various treatments and hospitals.
He is scheduled to go back in the hospital out of town in a week or so and will be there for two weeks minimum. While the family is away we will be holding the fund raiser pizza party to try and raise some money for the family. Most of the pizza items and beverages are going to be donated so almost all of the money made will go to Roman and his family.
The pizza party is on Saturday, October 27th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $15 adults and $10 children 12 and under, and include all the pizza you care to eat plus beer and pop (all you would like). Ticket sales are limited to 125 by the size of the hall but we are hoping to sell all 125 that we can.
If you are interested purchasing tickets please let me know and I will bring them next time I’m in the office. My son Chris and I will be working the event that night so I will hope to see you there if you can make it.
If you would like to read more about Roman and his family, please visit www.rescueroman.org.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.

WEST CHESTER – The third annual Amy’s Emergency Fund 5K walk/run will be held Oct. 6 at Ronald Reagan Voice of Freedom Park (Voice of America Park) on Cox Road in West Chester beginning at 10 a.m.
The run/walk will benefit Amy’s Emergency Fund, which provides assistance for victims of violent and domestically violent crimes.
Registration for those 14 years old and older is $20 pre-registration and $25 on the day of the event. Children 13 years and under are free. Checks can be made payable to CADV – Amy’s Emergency Fund and mailed to 2105 Central Ave., Suite A; Middletown, Ohio 45044.

T-shirts will be given at the check-in table the day of the event, and there will be special activities for the children. The runners will start off the event and the walk will follow when the runners have finished.
The event coincides with the beginning of October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Established in 2005, Amy’s Emergency Fund was named for Amy Jones. As a survivor of domestic violence, Jones is committed to making a difference for other victims of domestic violence. She feels that no person should have to live in an unsafe or unhealthy environment.
“The goal of the fund and groups such as Citizens Against Domestic Violence (CADV) are to empower victims so that they know there is a way out,” said Nicky Muterspaw, victim’s advocate for the Butler County Sheriff’s Office. “We also want to raise awareness of domestic violence to as many socio-economic groups as possible.”
Jones is a board member/speaker for CADV. She tells her bittersweet story to audiences in schools and professional organizations throughout the community in the hope of touching at least one person’s life, letting them know that there is life after violence.
For more information on the walk/run, please call (513) 423-0044 or visit www.cadv-ohio.com.

Breast Cancer: Buy a Brick...
Fight Breast Cancer: Buy a Brick
When: Sunday October 7, 2007 4pm-8pm
Where: Sharonville Convention Center
More Info: VISIT www.breastcancerbricks.org for more details and to see bricks from previous auctions.
Cincinnati, Ohio: The 6th Annual Breast Cancer Brick Auction will take place Sunday, October 7, 2007, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Sharonville Convention Center.
Local artists are creating art from bricks to raise funds for local breast cancer research and Cincinnati breast cancer advocacy groups. “Bricks Along the Journey” Annual Breast Cancer Brick Auction aims to top $120,000 this year.
The art, created in various media using a single brick as the foundation, is colorful and innovative. The bricks will be displayed and made available for purchase at the silent auction. Bricks start at $25. One brick created by an internationally acclaimed artist brought in $2500 in a prior year.
The recipient of all funds collected from the sale of the bricks will be the Greater Cincinnati Breast Cancer Alliance’s Ellen B. Ganson Fund, established in memory of Ellen Ganson, co-founder of the Breast Cancer Brick Auction, and created to benefit programs and patients exclusively in Cincinnati.
Ganson chose bricks as the basis of her fundraising campaign since their rejuvenation into objects of beauty and inspiration symbolizes the “journey,” or the return to health and strength of a breast cancer victim decimated by the initial diagnosis.
Ganson lost her heroic battle to breast cancer almost a year ago. Volunteer organizers and supporters of the upcoming auction are eager to advance her cause by raising more funds than in any of the previous auctions, whose total proceeds topped $120,000.
This summer, 4 camps participated in community action projects by painting bricks and gravel that will be included in a separate area of the brick auction. In this way children from 3rd grade level to teenagers are helping to find a cure! The following camps participated: Wise Center Camp, Camp Wildbrook, Camp Chabad, and Camp Livingston. Also, artist Marion Corbin-Mayer held a week-long program for teenage girls at her Creative Catalyst Studio, and they created bricks for the auction.
Come and see the art, purchase a unique brick---and help fight breast cancer!

Akers Angels...
“My only wish is to have a home that I can move around in…”
~Brooke Akers
Brooke Akers is a 7 year old, who suffers from Type II Spinal Muscular Atrophy and is confined to a 200 pound motorized wheelchair. Unfortunately, her 3 year old sister, Faith who has the same disease, her 9 year old brother, Christian who has Crohn’s disease, and her parents live in a bi-level home that is not wheelchair accessible.
Can you imagine watching all three of your children suffer? Here is an expression of a mother’s pain and feelings of hopelessness:
“I know I’m always requesting prayer and here I am again. I am having a difficult time accepting what is going on with Brooke. Her back and spine, hip, legs, ankles, feet, etc….my baby’s body is becoming deformed and it’s even affecting her breathing. Then there are the braces, stander and wheelchair. She’s not even strong enough to cough. I have to use a machine called a cough assist machine on her twice a day. She has to wear a bi-pap at night. There are 4 other pieces of equipment that have been ordered, a seating device, a stander for home, a Hoyer lift because she is getting to be so big and handicap accessible toilet seats. It’s just all so overwhelming, especially because our house is not big enough for the equipment.
I went into her room tonight and just held her and laid next to her and prayed and cried. I feel like we are losing her. I am really trying to keep the faith, but I need some help. Please, pray that I will continue to believe and keep the faith.
Then there’s my beautiful three year old daughter, Faith. The doctors and therapist are trying to convince me that Faith needs to get a wheelchair. I have been praying all along that Faith will never be in a wheelchair. I am starting to feel defeated. She’s already in a Kid Kart (a handicap stroller) and she wears braces on her legs and uses a walker. I just don’t think I can handle her being in a wheelchair too.
My son Christian’s Remicade infusions are not lasting the 6-8 weeks they are supposed to, so he is in a considerable amount of pain and we don’t know what to do next to keep the Crohn’s in control.
~Ginger Akers
My hope is that the City of Cincinnati can come together to support a local family, and show them that they do not have to fight alone. I challenge our community to come together and help us raise enough money to build a wheelchair accessible home, so Greg and Ginger have one less struggle.
IPlease help us and visit http://www.akersangels.com.
Thanks so much for taking the time to listen to the Akers story.
