Cincinnati, Ohio: The 6th Annual Breast Cancer Brick Auction will take place Sunday, October 7, 2007, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Sharonville Convention Center.
Local artists are creating art from bricks to raise funds for local breast cancer research and Cincinnati breast cancer advocacy groups. “Bricks Along the Journey” Annual Breast Cancer Brick Auction aims to top $120,000 this year.
The art, created in various media using a single brick as the foundation, is colorful and innovative. The bricks will be displayed and made available for purchase at the silent auction. Bricks start at $25. One brick created by an internationally acclaimed artist brought in $2500 in a prior year.
The recipient of all funds collected from the sale of the bricks will be the Greater Cincinnati Breast Cancer Alliance’s Ellen B. Ganson Fund, established in memory of Ellen Ganson, co-founder of the Breast Cancer Brick Auction, and created to benefit programs and patients exclusively in Cincinnati.
Ganson chose bricks as the basis of her fundraising campaign since their rejuvenation into objects of beauty and inspiration symbolizes the “journey,” or the return to health and strength of a breast cancer victim decimated by the initial diagnosis.
Ganson lost her heroic battle to breast cancer almost a year ago. Volunteer organizers and supporters of the upcoming auction are eager to advance her cause by raising more funds than in any of the previous auctions, whose total proceeds topped $120,000.
This summer, 4 camps participated in community action projects by painting bricks and gravel that will be included in a separate area of the brick auction. In this way children from 3rd grade level to teenagers are helping to find a cure! The following camps participated: Wise Center Camp, Camp Wildbrook, Camp Chabad, and Camp Livingston. Also, artist Marion Corbin-Mayer held a week-long program for teenage girls at her Creative Catalyst Studio, and they created bricks for the auction.
Come and see the art, purchase a unique brick---and help fight breast cancer!
